Satellites Map the Ocean
Article Abstract:
Satellite sensors study the ocean and the atmosphere above them as well as the cryosphere, the oceanic biosphere, and the lithosphere. A microwave scatterometer on a satellite measures ocean winds for weather forecasting. This wind measurement and radiometers for sea temperature measurement should help to predict El Nino phenomena. Altimeters and chlorophyll measurements help to observe ocean currents and make weather predictions from the currents. These altimeters must be extremely accurate. Satellites can also monitor sea ice using radiometry and radar. Uses of these instruments include aid to fisheries and mapping the ocean floor. Photographs of satellite techniques illustrate various applications.

Spanish - the new global conqueror
Article Abstract:
The Spanish language will be spoken by 400 million people by the end of the 20th century, according to novelist and Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It is a language with great vitality and creative dynamism, and has spread rapidly across the world. Its progress can be further assisted by freeing it from rigid grammatical rules. It is wise to learn from indigenous languages and to allow Spanish to become more free. Less emphasis should be placed on spelling and grammar and more on enriching the language.
