Short-path distillation gets hotter
Article Abstract:
Buss-SMS GmbH of Butzbach, Germany, has developed the "Indutherm SVI" thin-film evaporator that enables thermal fluids to be used up to temperature of 450 degrees Centigrade, a great improvement from previous limit of 200 to 350 degrees Centrigrade. The technology, which features an internal, rotating-wiper system that creates a thin film of product on the inner wall of the vacuum vessel, is anticipated to extend applications to higher-boiling and viscous media. Indutherm SVI's applications include distillation of high-boiling volatile compounds from bitumen and devolatilization of silicone products, among others.

Problem solving for high-energy pumps
Article Abstract:
The pump industry is being tasked to design pumps of higher energy-density levels by applying the technology used in rocket pumps and high-energy, utility boiler-feed pumps. Problems which need to be solved include the lack of durability of the pump structures and their inability to withstand the stronger pressure pulsations and unsteady fluid dynamic forces from impeller blade interaction with diffuser vanes and casing-volute cutwaters.
