Simulation study of CONWIP for a cold rolling plant
Article Abstract:
Constant Work In Process (CONWIP) production control system reduces average inventory costs, and work-in-process in semi-continuous manufacturing firms. It also provides the highest throughput rates, and minimizes problems of overtime vicious cycle. These are the results of a simulation study of the CONWIP system applied in four situations in a cold rolling plant, including situations where finished goods inventory (FGI) and buffer size are considered and another situation where both FGI and buffer size are not considered.

Planning of fuel coal imports using a mixed integer programming method
Article Abstract:
A mixed integer programming model provides effective planning and scheduling solutions to coal import problems of power companies with diverse supply sources. The model determines cost and shipment schedules of fuel coal imports leading to minimisation of total inventory cost. Application studies using Taiwan Power Company's data reveal effective applicability and flexibility of the model in planning and scheduling power company coal imports and other logistic systems.
