Taking on the year 2000
Article Abstract:
The year 2000 computer date transition (Y2K) problem has opened a world of challenge as well as opportunity for new engineers in the 21st century. Even the most significant technological innovations relating to computer hardware and software technology have not succeeded in effectively addressing the Y2K issue. Engineers who begin their careers on Y2K-related projects will strengthen their analytical and problem solving skills. Further, such projects are expected to provide career opportunities well into 2004.

A trend in design/build?
Article Abstract:
The engineer/procure/construct (EPC) or design/build project delivery system has been the system of choice among international contractors dealing with construction in the petrochemical/oil and gas sectors since the late 1960s. However, one of the changes that have occurred within the petrochemical/oil and gas sector EPC project delivery system has adversely affected the profession in a number of ways including a lack of young engineers entering the field of detail engineering.
