The (k sub 1, k sub 2) game
Article Abstract:
The (k sub 1, k sub 2) game designed by W. Edwards Deming supports Deming's decision rule that no inspection is best if the probability that an item is nonconforming is less than the ratio of the unit cost of inspection to the unitcost of repair, and 100% inspection is more economical if the probability is greater. Deming's (k sub 1, k sub 2) models propose zero inspection, 100% inspection to replace nonconforming items with conforming items and an acceptance plan that requires 100% inspection if a set number of nonconforming items are found upon inspection of a specific number of items as alternative models for acceptance sampling.

Another view on how to measure health care quality
Article Abstract:
Health care, like other industries, can measure and improve its quality through statistical process control (SPC) methods. Clinical, nonclinical and laboratory processes are random events, the variations of which can be analyzed through appropriate SPC charts. SPC displays variations over time and can show patterns missed by other statistical tests. Hospitals should avoid outcome-based metrics as they are generally aggregated measures which provide little corrective information and cause unnecessary pressure.

Stat 101
Article Abstract:
A card game is used to simulate the shortcomings of acceptance sampling. The aim of acceptance sampling is to validate the quality of a job lot through an evaluation of the quality of a sample. It could be assumed that a sample with few non-compliant units would come from a lot with few non-compliant units also. But there are instances such as a sample with many non-compliant units coming from a lot with few non-compliant units.
