Using prevention techniques: a major aircraft firm used root-cause analysis for engineering data quality
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Fort Worth Company was encouraged to use a new approach to correct inconsistencies in hardware quality in 1985. This involved deciding on an overall approach in conjunction with the government, setting up the organisational concept, setting out and communicating requirements for inspection and reporting and making changes during a major airplane program. The company learnt that quality levels could be improved by eliminated defects via prevention instead of reworking the data, and the same approach is now being used to deal with customers' concerns about documents.

Analysis of assembly systems with service level constraints
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze a decomposition technique for general assembly systems. The method decomposes the assembly network into divergent multi-echelon systems. Discrete event simulation was then utilized to examine pre-allocation policies against commonly utilized allocation rules. Results indicated that pre-allocation policies outperform allocation policies with respect to service and costs.
