Two strange bedfellows: silver and fertilizers
Article Abstract:
Itronics Inc has the world's first commercial plant to co-produce fertilizers and silver from photochemical wastes. Itronics eliminates all of the cations from the photochemicals by chemical precipitation to produce a thiosulfate-rich liquid that contains chelating compounds derived from ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid. The liquid is concentrated to produce fertilizers. Silver is recovered from the precipitate by a combination of pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy.

O2 breathes new life into processes
Article Abstract:
Plant productivity and processes can be improved through oxygen enrichment. The addition of oxygen does not require a major capital investment, which has made it a strong preference for increasing output and decreasing emissions and led to the development of oxygen-enhanced technologies. Processes that have benefited from oxygen enrichment include fluid catalytic cracking, sulfur recover and petrochemical processes.
