Bearing flakes
Article Abstract:
The premature failure of ball bearings in the manual transmission of automobiles has been found to be caused by the presence of foreign material in the transmission oil. Both metallic and non-metallic particles were found even in a brand new transmission system. As a result of these findings, ball bearing races which are not affected by foreign materials in the lubricating oil were designed. These are similar to the standard bearings but with special rubber seals added which only allow oil to enter into the bearings.

Japan pulls in the net
Article Abstract:
Japan gave in to Greenpeace's efforts and bans the use of drift net fishing in the high seas. The use of drift net fishing is considered marineexploitation. In a related issue, Korea shows indications of also banning driftnet fishing, but has not yet complied with the United Nations' ban. The effortsof Greenpeace show that public pressure and vigilance reaps long-term environmental rewards.
