Agronomic evaluation: cocomposting industrial biomass

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the technical and economic possibility of separating and recovering the organic fractions from sewage sludge. Raw cotton, tobacco, vegetables, municipal solid waste and food residues were processed in a compost plant in Trento, Italy. Evaluation of the products show high indices for the compost except for humidification rate and moisture content. Compost was also found to be useful in landscaping and for planting apple trees and vine cuttings.

Nitrogen release from field stacked biosolids

Article Abstract:

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) sponsored an experimental field study to measure the amount of nitrogen, and its specification, that might be leaching from field-stacked Class B biosolids. Data collected from these plots show that the potential exists for biosolids stored at application sites to affect the nitrogen content of shallow groundwater.
