Analyzing chemical properties of MSW composts
Article Abstract:
An analysis is presented of 74 compost samples derived from municipal solid waste, produced by regional composting plants in Spain, for possible use as agricultural soil amendments. The analysis found significant variation between the samples due to the heterogeneous and random nature of municipal refuse, but that levels of undesirables, such as heavy metals, were low enough to meet agricultural utilization standards.

Microbiology, architecture and planning of European composting plants
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented on research and technologies that are increasing organics recovery in many European countries. Studies on antagonism and microbial competition have resulted in a higher quality of resultant compost material, while improvements in closed technology, such as reactors and in-vessels, have reduced negative environmental impacts like odors.
