Power company acquires composting sites
Article Abstract:
NRG Energy Inc. is able to compost its waste-to-fuel residuals through the purchase of eight composting sites and their waste hauling contracts. The sites generate approximately 2,000 cubic yards of compost from food residuals, and 60,000 cubic yards from finished yard cuttings.

Issues are presented concerning the landfill reduction policy put into effect by the Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency in Iowa. The authority has reduced landfill by 39% through the use of rotary digester tubes for organic waste.

The compost facility that never stops growing

The expansion of the solid waste disposal facility of Bluestem Agency, Iowa, is described. Bluestem composts 100,000 tons annually of residential and industrial waste and plans to increase its range of targeted materials in 2002.
