Big diversion from C&D debris
Article Abstract:
The largely recoverable construction and demolition (C&D) debris can be used in different types of diversion operations. Recent experiments shows the recycling process of C&D debris is commercially viable and mechanical processes are used to recycle the debris. Manual sorters are used to separate recyclables and hazardous materials. Ferrous materials are separated from the debris by a magnet in a hammermill. Manual sorters and quality control pickers line belts separate materials and contaminants in the last step of the operation.

Recycling debris from construction projects
Article Abstract:
Cornerstone Material Recovery of McHenry County, IL has developed recycling measures for materials from constuction sites. Their approach, which involves a decentralized, on-site source separation and processing system, is similar to residential recycling programs with differences only on the nature of materials hauled, and container sizes. The firms' success, attributed to the owners' previous construction experiences, has prompted county officials to require recycling of builders, and to educate refuse handlers on reuse.

Taking on the construction waste stream
Article Abstract:
The Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources is funding a $483,000 demonstration project aimed at boosting recycling of products in construction and demolition sites. The project, which is inspired by a disposal program for 33,000 households in the Des Moines, IO, metropolitan area, is being handled by Artistic Solid Waste Systems, Corell Contractor and Central C and D Recycling. The collection system for the project is adapted from one used in Chicago, IL, since the early 1990s.
