Building a coalition to recycle biosolids
Article Abstract:
The Biosolids Recyclers of Southern California (BRSC), a consortium of government and industry representatives, provides educational information about biosolids to potential users. BRSC educates users about the advantages of using biosolids-based compost and promotes the reuse of biosolids by the public. The group promotes research projects and maintains a list of resources available on biosolids-related issues. BRSC is seeking tax-exempt status and aims to establish an open market for all biosolids-based products.

Diversion strategies when landfill tip fees are low
Article Abstract:
The 1990 Australian and New Zealand Environmental and Conservation Council (ANZECC) recommended a 50% reduction landfill wastes by the year 2000. ANZECC adopted the Green and Organic Waste Management Strategy in 1996 and the push to recycle has received strong community support. In Australia landfill dumping costs have been historically low, making the recycling of green waste uneconomical without subsidies, so legislation to ban green waste landfilling was introduced in many states.
