Enclosed design for grinding facility
Article Abstract:
Northwest Cascade Inc of Puyallup, WA, a company dealing with the disposal of septic tank material, began in 1982 to use sawdust as a bulking agent that would permit composting, and because of the increasing cost of sawdust began converting to yard trimmings in 1989. The city of Tacoma encouraged this use of yard trimmings as a bulking agent, and the company moved its yard trimmings processing unit nearer to the city to improve costs. The company is also involved in the recycling of wastewater materials. Handling methods and equipment are described.

Understanding the differences between grinding, shredding and chipping
Article Abstract:
The article differentiates between grinders, chippers and shredders. Grinders produce wood particles via repeated pounding using a hammermill, while chippers use knives on a rotating plate or disk to cut wood into pieces of various sizes. Shredders use rotating shafts mounted with knives or cutting disks which pull wood into pieces between the shafts and the surrounding chamber.
