Enzyme producer grows greener with composting

Article Abstract:

Novozymes North American Inc., is a biotech firm that uses its own enzyme production residuals, plus recycled organics from outside sources to enhance its composting operation. Novozymes, which is committed to the "Triple-Bottom-Line" concept of environmental, social and financial responsibility, had previously relied solely on land application as a means of utilizing its enzyme production residuals, but because of an extensive integration of an environmental management system and environmental performance goals into its business operation, it now composts a portion of these residuals.

Enclosed aerated static piles and "in-vessel" semantics

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency adopted its pathogen reduction standards for biosolids composting which meant the in-vessel system to meet the 55 degree Celsius consecutive day time/temperature requirement for 15 days. This regulatory status led to a casual debate about whether agitated bed systems were 'in-vessel' or windrows contained within concrete walls.
