European recovered paper standards revised
Article Abstract:
The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) and the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) have modified the 1995 recovered paper standards. The list is important for companies in the recovery business and for customs officials who have to classify waste paper shipments. The revised classification addresses problems such as acceptable moisture content, unusable materials and non-paper substances in the recovered paper stream. Based on the list ordinary qualities belong to group 1, medium qualities to group 2, high qualities to group 3, kraft qualities to group 4 and special qualities to group 5.

Building on strength
Article Abstract:
The markets for paper stock posted strong growth in most of 1999, and the trend is expected to continue into 2000. The price of most white-grade paper products have stabilized after soaring through most of the summer and fall of 1999. Pulp prices remained strong even as the demand for their substitutes such as pulp substitutes and deinking grades continued to increase. The office paper market has also remained vibrant, buoyed by the overall market condition for the grade.
