Gold medal for composting is only one-third the story

Staffs who operate the EKO systems composting site on Maui, Hawaii received the Gold 2004 Composting Excellence Award from Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) for their commitment for achieving the highest standards in the solid waste industry. According to John Harder, the chief of Maui County's Solid Waste Division, nearly 50 percent of the country's landfill diversion is the direct result of EKO and its sister company, Pacific Biodiesel.

Texas city forges ahead with commercial organics initiative
Article Abstract:
During 2001-2002, Plano collected 1,211 tons of food residuals from 77 different locations. Combined with commercial and residential recycling, Plano has reached a 19 percent diversion rate, which brings it about half way to its voluntary goal of 40 percent.
