Inner city recycling and composting
Article Abstract:
The Resource Center, a non-profit organization in Chicago's South Side has been turning unwanted materials and recyclables into useful resources for almost thirty years. It has also been providing jobs for inner city residents. The Center provides curbside collection of recyclables and about 300 'recyclables scavengers' bring recyclables to the Center's dropoff site. It also composts horse manure from police stables, grass and leaves from the residents and landscapers and food waste from restaurants.
