Lapaks and bandars convert MSW in Indonesia
Article Abstract:
A primary source of income for a sizeable portion of the population of Jakarta, Indonesia, is the processing and marketing of recycled wastes. A study explored the technical and economic viability of small-scale operations for the recycling of municipal solid wastes (MSW) into compost. The study also introduced novel schemes for improved methods in recycling and processing of the nearly 5000 tons of MSW generated daily in the country. The traditional form of recycling was done by scavengers, called Lapaks, who had steady incomes that exceeded the average wages of unskilled factory workers in Jakarta. even these wastes and process them into valuable soil supplements.

Variable rates and 25 recyclable materials
Article Abstract:
The state recycling law at Mansfield, Connecticut, allows implementation of a variable fee refuse collection system at four levels depending on the bin size. Services for curbside collection of recyclables from single homes are also provided. For an extra fee, refuse is collected from the backyard. Multifamily houses also have variable rate service. The recycling trucks are compartmentalized separately for newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated boxboard and commingled containers. The success of the operations depends on the contracted hauler's input.
