Low cost management strategies
Article Abstract:
The low cost management strategies adopted for integrated solid waste management in Oneida County, Wisconsin, includes backyard and school composting, yard trimmings composting, and fibre cake composting. A composting program, initiated under a commercial source separated organics pilot, works with their customers by personally training them. Also, 96 gallon wheel carts are provided to them and a 50% reimbursement for the added collection costs are given to the participants. The program has resulted in 70% of landfills being composted.

Rethinking the refuse/recycling ratio
Article Abstract:
The ReThinkIt pilot project in Tucson, Arizona, is promoting waste diversion by changing the refuse/recycling processes. The weekly refuse collection services, provided to the pilot project areas, keep track of the capacity of the garbage containers and the public health. In the bi-weekly refuse collection schedule, the second day is cost ineffective. Curbside recycling has also been made weekly. Residents are being educated about the recycling procedure and yard trimming techniques are being made efficient.
