Looking south
Article Abstract:
Trade between Latin America nations, especially Mexico, and the other North American nations such as the US and Canada has flourished since the mid-1990s. With regards to the scrap metals industry, Mexico in 1998 was the third leading destination by tonnage and the second leading destination by dollar value for ferrous scrap exported from the US. It was also the second leading aluminum scrap destination. Mexico's success may be a sign of things to come for the Latin American economies.

METECH UPGRADES CALIFORNIA FACILITY
Article Abstract:
The near-term markets for paper stock remains ambivalent, depending on the bulk grades and regional markets. Demand for old corrugated was rather high for the early part of 1999 because of steady and strong offshore orders. Asian orders have become uncertain despite high demand levels early this year. Old newsprint markets are expected to remain favorable inspite of major downtime activities reported in North American newsprint mills.
