Low Speed Shredders: An Option for Some Recyclers
Article Abstract:
Entities which conduct recycling operations whether engaged in manufacturing or municipal governments should consider whether low-speed shredders are appropriate for their operations instead of high-speed shredders. Low-speed shredders can perform recycling operations with lesser energy consumption and lesser noise. In addition to lesser energy consumption and noise, some shredders are built to have lower vibration levels and lesser installation costs.

APPLIANCE RECYCLERS REPORT $3 MILLION LOSS
Article Abstract:
Appliance Recycling Centers of America Inc (ARCA) reported a $3 million loss for 1998. The loss was due to low ferrous scrap prices and a write-off in connection with a closure of an appliance shredding operation valued at $500,000. ARCA buys appliances and either sells them for resale at Appliance$mart stores or recycles their scrap metal. ARCA president and CEO Edward R Cameron said their stores' profitability did not increase despite higher sales.

Tire processing equipment: shredders and grinders and more...oh my
Article Abstract:
The operations of scrap tire processing and recycling centers are basically directed towards size reduction to shredding followed by grinding, granulation and powderization. Scrap tire processors rely mostly on high-torque shear shredders which have cutter blades mounted on counter-rotating twin shafts. Shredder manufacturers offer a range of shredders that are similar in design but vary in their processing concept.
