Low-cost route to biosolids composting
Article Abstract:
Biosolids from the wastewater treatment plant in Wilton, ME, are dewatered to around 17% solids, with the local composting facility handling all the biosolids produced, between 330 cubic yards a year and 375 cubic yards a year. The composting facility has been operating since 1992, and has received no complaints at all from local people. The finished compost, around 500 cubic yards a year to 600 cubic yards a year, is widely used in the town. It is distributed free of charge, bringing substantial public relations benefits.
