Source separating MSW in Spain
Article Abstract:
The pilot 'Minimum Waste' project (Projecte Residu Minim) was launched in Catalonia in 1993, and source separation in the Catalan municipalities of Torrelles de Llobregat and Molins de Rei started-up 1996. Families were educated on environmental responsibility and were issued with a 10-liter bin, and compostable paper bags. A further four municipalities have joined the initiative and the construction of two composting plants is planned.

Reclaiming contaminated soils
Article Abstract:
Windrow composting techniques have been used at Fort Riley, Kansas, since 1992 to recycle contaminated materials including petroleum and lubricants. Fort Riley uses three bioremediating systems involving passive aeration, turning and watering procedures. The site was awarded a bioremediation operating permit in 1995 from the Directorate of Environment and Safety.
