Special report: composting the commercial organic stream
Article Abstract:
A report from the Grocery Industry Committee revealed that the grocery industry produces food products that are very compostable. These include vegetables, fruits, bakery and deli materials, dairy products and frozen foods. A pilot composting project implemented in Maine produced compost from produce, deli and bakery wastes combined with cow manure and bulking agents. These efforts are geared towards converting materials from the waste stream into useful resources.
