Testing options for residential organics
Article Abstract:
The Region of Ottawa-Carleton has been adopting various waste diversion programs in its bid to meet the 475-kg waste per curbside household per year diversion target that the governing council has set for 2000. Along with three diversion projects that are currently being developed, namely, organics diversion, the use of extra recycling box for paper to 207,000 households and a return-to-vendor 'Take It Back!' program, a pilot was implemented in 1996 to be able to reach the diversion goal. Meat/fish, vegetables/fruit, fats/oils, cat litter and fireplace ash have been targeted for the pilot diversion program.

Rethinking the green roof
Article Abstract:
Green roofs can hold storm water preventing its entry into sewage systems where it can reduce treatment efficiency, overload treatment efficiency, plants and cause raw sewage discharges. Green roofs can become better integrated within the entire building design, to optimize how they supply benefits to the building and this may be achieved in grey water cycling, tiered building design or any number of ideas yet to be proposed.

Needed good governance for good water management
Article Abstract:
Effective governance is an important part of effective water resource management, although it receives less attention. The review states that governance has two basic values, inclusiveness where all members receive same treatment and accountability, which means those in authority are answerable to the people they serve.
