The state of garbage in America
Article Abstract:
Waste management legislation has involved a lot of states in the US in 1991 including Arkansas, Hawaii, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia whose thrusts were directed towards comprehensive waste reduction. The laws were directed towards garbage recycling with considerable attention on markets. Banning waste products from disposal facilities is another popular concern among legislators with focus on materials coming from vehicles such as batteries, tires and oils. Lessons learned from inaction due to lack of continuous funding has assured provision of funds for every law passed.

The garbage stops here (at the state line)
Article Abstract:
The states of New Jersey, Wyoming and Pennsylvania are instituting bans on the interstate transportation of solid wastes. Although New Jersey's restrictions on the importation of refuse was squashed in the US Supreme Court because it limits commerce, the state has developed new regulations covering waste disposal. Similarly, Wyoming passed legislation requiring the recovery of reusable materials in commercial landfills with daily capacities of 500 tons or higher. The state of Pennsylvania is likewise vigorously campaigning against interstate waste disposal.

The state of garbage in America
Article Abstract:
The management of solid waste in the US has improved considerably over recent years. Most states are not facing an immediate crisis regarding landfill capacity, and almost all states have established targets for recycling or waste reduction, or both. The relatively stable nature of solid waste management at present is reflected in the fact that state legislatures have issued very little new legislation on this issue recently. Some 23 states now produce annual tonnage information for the recovery of individual waste materials.
