To burn or not to burn
Article Abstract:
Local and state governments are at odds over which solid waste recovery schemes to adopt. Some agencies, particularly those from the East Coast, espouse incineration because of their substantial investments in such a scheme while others support composting and recycling which are relatively less expensive. In the past, it was hoped that local governments would pursue recycling and composting as a main solid waste recovery approach and supplement them with incineration.

Setting the agenda
Article Abstract:
State and central bodies are the sole authorities empowered to lay guidelines on waste recycling issues. Enhanced public awareness is much-needed to shape the course of government policies on reuse and recycling of wastes, thereby aiding in better managing the environment.
