What's wrong with office paper?
Article Abstract:
There are still a number of problems associated with the recycling of office paper in the US. It appeared at the beginning of the 1990s that there was considerable potential for using mixed office paper as cheap furnish for deinked pulp, but this has not really proved to be the case. Many paper industry officials are now calling for a return to high-grade office paper collection schemes. However, this move would raise a range of questions, including where separation for a higher grade should take place. The main technical difficulty with recycling office paper is sticky labels and stamps.

Good paper mills make good neighbors
Article Abstract:
The renovated paper mill and the converting facilities built by the Wisconsin Tissue Mill, Flagstaff, Arizona, for recycling paper are environmentally friendly. Environmental upgrades, fire and safety devices, and replacement of the old equipments were part of the renovation. The recycled feedstock used in papermaking includes high grade mixed waste paper and preconsumer polycoated paper. The mill uses less water than other paper mills and recycles 90% of the used water. No bleaching is done in the papermaking process.

Improving commercial paper sorting
Article Abstract:
The use of sorted office pack to manufacture post-consumer office paper encountered several quality problems concerning adhesive stamps, fluorescent paper and new inks from color printers and copiers. Innovations at materials recovery facilities, however, are making the long-term outlook for high quality paper grades brighter. Other key factors to consider in improving commercial paper sorting are advances in deinking technology and better supply and demand relationships.
