Beyond aid: homegrown approaches in Bangladesh
Article Abstract:
Non-government organizations (NGOs) in Bangladesh have grown to such an extent that they have enough capacity to compliment the government in carrying out educational and social programs. Ten percent of British aid goes through NGOs, underlining the prominence of NGOs in this country. There are 20000 NGOs in Bangladesh. Grameen Bank, Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, and Proshika are the largest ones among them. The NGOs are striving for further self sufficiency and sustainability.
