Article Abstract:
There are five recently published books on the British occupation in India. The books depict the fundamental changes in Indian politics and government when the British took over. British ideologies that were ingrained among the Indians included unity, democracy, the rule of law and relative equality beyond caste and creed. A book on industry and liberalization in India is also discussed.

The Philippines: Fragile democracy or strong republic?
Article Abstract:
A comparison of the fragile promise of Philippine democracy with the resilience long displayed by a republic of 85 million people is presented. This serves a useful step to examine the problems faced by the existing Philippine Presidents and make reforms necessary for discrete progress in governance and the economy and move on from damaging politics.
