Reply to James Loucky's review of 'Ignacio.' (response to J. Loucky, American Ethnologist, vol. 23, pp. 430-431, 1996)
Article Abstract:
James Loucky has surprisingly little positive to say about 'Ignacio: The Diary of a Maya Indian of Guatemala,' when he previously had only high praises for Ignacio's work and has conceded that the volume covers the aftermath of a significant period in the region's history. Among Loucky's comments are the lack of mention of some particulars of interest such as parenting and daily economic activities and the inclusion of details and episodes which were better left omitted.

Hanson's review of 'Woven Gods.' (response to Allan Hanson, American Ethnologist, vol. 23, pp. 199-200, 1996)
Article Abstract:
Vilsoni Hereniko's 'Woven Gods' is a finely written and articulate account of Rotuman culture and the nature of clowning in Pacific societies. Thus, it does not deserve Allan Hanson's unkind criticisms on Hereniko's Rotuman self and his legitimacy as an insider, given his departure from Rotuma to Suva. In fact, when he left Rotuma for Suva, he became more immersed in the Rotuman culture since there are more Rotumans in Suva than on the island of Rotuma.
