Recent state legislation in Georgia designating Hispanics as an official minority group will boost the role of Hispanic companies in the public-service sector. Companies with state contracts will receive tax breaks worth US$6,000 if they subcontract to Hispanic firms.

The De la Cruz Cos. was founded by Hispanic American Carlos de la Cruz in 1984 as a conglomerate dealing with beer and automobiles. The company has four separate corporations under its leadership. It ranked fourth in revenues among Hispanic-owned businesses for 1994.
