The nomination of Alberto Gonzales as the attorney general has provoked critics and defenders alike, as he is the first Hispanic ever to hold the influential position. Alberto Gonzales has laid out his priorities to protect America against future acts of terrorism, including expediting the deportation of illegal immigrants, ending an impasse over judicial nominees and extending government powers under the Patriot Act.

The first-ever Hispanic Education Summit was held by the Hispanic Federation based in New York at Pace University in May 2005. The participants in the Summit shared the general view that improvement in the education of the Hispanic community was vital to move ahead both from the political and business perspective.
