Time to take a stand

Article Abstract:

A poll of Hispanic business leaders showed that a vast majority favor affirmative action programs. The poll revealed that 85% favor affirmative action in government contracting, and 80% favor it in higher education. They felt that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus should try to defend these programs.

A showdown over affirmative action

Most Hispanic Republicans in California support the California Civil Rights Initiative, which would eliminate gender and racial criteria in public employment. While they acknowledge the accomplishments of affirmative action, they believe that the system has gone too far.

Members of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in the US believe that Hispanics are feeling more compelled to vote or to otherwise become politically active. This is occurring because of a widespread backlash against affirmative action, legal immigrants, and other issues.
