Communication-family characteristics: a comparison between stepfamilies (formed after death or divorce) and biological families
Article Abstract:
A group of 120 adolescents between the ages of 12 to 19 participated in a study designed to compare the response of three groups of adolescents: from biological families, from stepfamilies after death of the father, and from stepfamilies after divorce. Biological families had the most effective communication among the three. Adolescents from stepfamilies formed after divorce had the poorest communication among family members. In general, communication with the mother is best in all three. Female adolescents in stepfamilies have more difficulty communicating with parents than male adolescents.

The reaction of friends and family to divorce
Article Abstract:
Relatives and friends help a divorcee in adapting to being single again. Comparative studies in the subject conducted in Canada and the US revealed that family approval help showed differences in intensity between the two countries. Friends of divorcees in the US were more supportive and less disapproving than support networks in Canada. The study also showed that Americans favored remarriage more than Canadians.
