Competitive parenting: the culture of teen mothers
Article Abstract:
A participant-observation study was conducted over a three-year period to investigate the competitive behavior of teen mothers and the sociodemographic variables responsible for the proliferation of this culture. The competitive culture was found to have a predominantly positive effect on their parenting. However, there were also negative implications, with some adolescent mothers being less disposed to seek advice for fear of appearing ignorant.

Early motherhood in an intergenerational perspective: the experiences of a British cohort
Article Abstract:
The fertility patterns of the daughters of young mothers are studied using the British National Child Development Study. It examines factors that may affect the daughters' inheritance of motherhood traits from their mothers. These include poor family and educational environments, early ideal age of childbearing and the inherited age of menarche. Results show that the subjects are more likely to have birth in their teens and into their early 20s.
