Explaining the intergenerational transmission of divorce
Article Abstract:
A study shows that parental divorce increases the chances of offspring divorce especially in cases where adult children have witnessed the dissolution of their parents marriage. Parental divorce affects the interpersonal behavior of the offspring which is bound to be problematic thus increasing the risk of divorce. The risk of divorce is maximized when both partners come from a background of divorced parents. Offspring's age at marriage, cohabitation, socioeconomic attainment, and prodivorce attitudes fail to moderate the impact of parental divorce on the offspring.
