Self-concept of African-American male youth: self-esteem and ethnic identity
Article Abstract:
The study of the role of perceived efficacy, parent support, and community participation in the self-esteem and ethnic identity of 68 African-American male youth points to support for the distinctiveness of ethnic identity and self-esteem. There is a positive relation of a sense of mastery among self-esteem and ethnic identity. Parent support is related to self-esteem, while community participation and admiration of African-American heritage are positively related to ethnic identity.
