Correlates of self-esteem among college offspring from divorced families: a study of gender-based differences
Article Abstract:
The factors relevant to children's adjustments after a parental divorce have a significant relationship to the self-esteem of young adult college students who had their parents separated during their childhood or adolescence. Gender, social class, age at the time of parental divorce, remarriage of the custodial mother, the frequency of contact with the non-residential father and attachment to the father are the relevant factors. Contact with the non-residential father has a significant impact on the self-esteem of the female child, where as the age at the time of the separation of parents affects the self-esteem of the male child. Results also reveal that the self esteem levels among male and female children of divorced couples is almost the same with no differences.

Anti-marriage attitudes and motivations to marry amongst adolescents with divorced parents
Article Abstract:
Results of a study of white males and females, aged 17-18 and from various socioeconomic groups, with married or separated parents revealed that teenagers from divorced families were less inclined to marry than those from intact families. Daughters of divorced parents were more inclined to marry as they were influenced by variables connected with marriage, such as leaving home and school and developing steady relationships.

A longitudinal study of the effects of social support on the psychological adjustment of divorced mothers
Article Abstract:
Social support contributes to a divorced mother's well being and re-adaptability. A survey conducted on divorced mothers who availed of social support and supplied psychological adjustment profiles two and six months post-divorce showed definite changes in the composition and relationship characteristics of social networks formed over the period.
