Marriage type and reproducible decisions: a comparative study in sub-Saharan Africa
Article Abstract:
Data from the 1988, 1989 and 1993 Demographic and Health Surveys of Ghana and Kenya were analyzed to determine the influence of marriage type on fertility preferences. Polygamy was found to have insignificant effect on women's capacity to implement their reproductive decisions. Evidences from both the multivariate analysis and bivariate analysis were not supportive of the hypothesis of higher usage of birth control devices when men, rather than women, decide to have no more children.
