Gender differences in the social and economic burdens of parenting and psychological distress
Article Abstract:
Research amongst adults under the age of 60 years revealed that adults, and particularly mothers, who have children living with them report higher levels of psychological distress. The adults associate the psychological distress with the additional economic and child care burdens of having children under the age of 18 years in the home. However, parents also report psychological benefits from having children, so removal of the structural burdens connected with parenting would lead to decreased psychological distress for adults, particularly women.

Social and psychological bases of homogamy for common psychiatric disorders
Article Abstract:
A study of information from a community survey of 586 married couples revealed their marital ties to be homogamous, wherein they chose partners with similar anxiety levels and substance abuse disorders. Males' choice of partners was influenced by their parents' psychiatric levels, while females perceived future impacts of their partners' psychiatric disorders before choosing their spouses.

The critical shapes of body image: The role of culture and family in the production of eating disorders
Article Abstract:
The way in which family mediates cultural ideas about thinness and how these messages are conveyed to family members was explored, based on a grounded theory approach, and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). The findings suggest that a critical family environment, dominating discourse on weight and coercive parental control are salient conditions.
