Caregiver burden: differentiating the content and consequences of family caregiving
Article Abstract:
A study attempts to fill the dearth of research on why some family members manage caregiving of mentally ill loved ones better than others and how the idea that such caregiving is a burden influences the amount of burden felt. 163 parents and siblings of mentally ill adults were used. Disruptive behavior by the mentally ill person and the need to give emotional assistance were a key influence on the burden felt. Younger parents felt more burdened and parents felt more burdened than siblings.

Perceived instrumental support exchanges in relationships between elderly parents and their adult children: Normative and structural explanations
Article Abstract:
Norms and structures in parent-child relationships and the influence that they exert on instrumental support exchanges are examined. The higher the filial responsibility of both parent and children, the more support was received by the parent. Reciprocity was not a significant determinant of the support received by the parent.
