Article Abstract:

There are a number of gendered thresholds that some husbands cross to become high participators in household tasks, according to research into the hypothesis that task-specific measures of the division of household tasks create a gender hierarchy that reflects elements of meaning in the organization of these tasks. It has been possible to identify at least some of what patterns husbands' participation may have to do with feeling that some tasks belong together, beyond assumptions about the gender appropriateness of undertaken household tasks at all, practical considerations or feelings about housework.

Spousal influence on retirement: his, her, and their perceptions

Article Abstract:

The perceptions of married couples toward spousal influence on retirement were investigated. Data from 228 couples participating in the Cornell Retirement and Well-Being Study were analyzed to determine differences in perceptions between husbands and wives regarding the decision to retire. Empirical results showed that both retirees and their spouses agree that spouses influence retirement, although spouses view their influence as less significant than retirees do.
