Women should prepare their bodies for pregnancy even before conception to ensure a trouble-free pregnancy and a healthy baby. Ideally, preparation should start at least three months before getting pregnant. It should include a complete medical examination, proper exercise and withdrawal from cigarettes and alcohol.

Epidural injections, which anaesthetize a laboring woman's midsection, are requested by as many as four-fifths of hospital maternity patients. However, not all hospitals make epidurals available on a round-the-clock basis, so women who may want an epidural should make arrangements ahead of time.

Fairy tales can convey important moral messages to young children, even if they have violent or sexist elements. Parents can cushion such inappropriate messages by presenting recently edited versions of tales. Five such renditions are described.
