Step- and foster families: a comparison
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine similarities and differences related to the structures of foster and step-families. Both types of families are established by the joining of at least one additional family member. However, foster families are created by the placement of a child while step-families evolve from the love and mutual decision of the spouses. The relationship between the foster family and the foster child is also considered temporary and conditional, whereas permanent kin-relationships and unconditional love are promoted in step-families.
