The place of feminism in family studies
Article Abstract:
Four themes of feminist scholarship are evident in family studies publications as both the feminist movement and the field of family studies undergo transformation. These are social construction of gender as a central concept, commitment to gender equality and social change, feminist practice including women's lives and experiences, and rethinking the concept of 'family.' Some of the observations on feminist scholarship in family studies journals include an increasing tendency towards gender-neutrality, approaches to at the level of individuals, and strong feminist commitment in family work and feminist pedagogy.
