Shy of great
Article Abstract:
The 1997 California Pinot Noirs are not great, due to the extremely large harvest and accelerated ripening. There are a few exceptions, such as Saintsbury Pinot Noir Carneros Brown Ranch 1997, and Landmark Pinot Noir Sonoma Mountan Van der Kamp Vineyard Grand Detour 1997. Some of the younger-tasting, tannic wines are likely to benefit from time in the cellar.
