American and British farmhouse cheddars are compared for their quality and the way they are processed. Even though British cheddar possesses an established reputation, it is facing competition from the American variety, which won the gold medal at the 2004 World Cheese Awards in London.

Parmigiano-Reggiano is the part of the large family of hard grating-cheeses called grana. The grana clan includes Parmigiano and Grana Padano, which are the largest-selling hard cheese in Italy.
