A member of the US Air Force moonlighted as the wine steward of the base officer's club during the 1970s. In that job, he was mistakenly shipped 3 cases of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1961, and bought them all himself. In 1989, he sold his remaining case for $3,300.

Making wine, changing lives
Article Abstract:
A psychologist requested and was granted an opportunity to assist in making wine at California's Ridge Vineyards. He hoped to use the experience to learn more about human transformation. He describes his experiences crushing grapes and doing other tasks.

A group of friends in Rhode Island meets monthly to taste homemade and commercial wines. The homemade-wine faction tries to persuade the commercial-wine fans that homemade wines can be superior. In some cases, that has been true.
